56 Euratom has concluded several cooperation agreements with third countries, including the United States and Canada. These agreements are not association agreements, as they do not provide for a particular institutional structure. 37 For more details, see Article 58-64 of the Greek Agreement. An interesting provision relating to the harmonisation of the external trade policy of the Community and Greece concerns the case of a third country applying for membership of the Community as an associate member or full member. In this case, the Community and Greece must consult each other to resolve the new relations between Greece and the future associate member of the Ou, taking full account of the Greek and EEC interests. This provision, which was applied during the negotiation of the agreement with Turkey, can lead to difficulties if the Community wishes to conclude additional association agreements with other Mediterranean countries. Spain, whose economic structure and interests are similar to those of Greece, is currently considering an association with the Community. However, in an interpretive statement of the Greek agreement, it is stated that the interest of THE COMMUNITY and Greece is to allow friendly third countries to join third friendly countries as members or associated companies (see Article 64 and Appendix 2 of the final act of the Greek Convention). Please list all the fees and grants of, Employment, advice, shared co-ownership or any close relationship with an organization whose interests may be affected by the publication of the response. Please also list all non-financial associations or interests (personal, professional, political, institutional, religious or other) that a reasonable reader wishes to know about the work submitted. This applies to all the authors of the play, their spouses or partners. 7. In many cases, the Association Agreement replaces a cooperation agreement and thus strengthens relations between partners.
84 Pescatore considers this to be the distinguishing characteristic of an association agreement from a trade agreement, insofar as it is based on the principle of achieving the objectives of the parties (International Law Academy Course Collection, Vol. 103, p. 141). 4 Bulletin of the EC, March 1964 (7th year, no. 3), p. 27-28Google Scholar, and June 1964 (7th year, No. 6), p. 10-11. Other states that expressed interest in the association agreements were Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus and Tunisia.
Article 136 was a convenient handful to temporarily extend trade benefits to african associates when the original association agreement expired after five years. At that time, it appears that every effort has been made to prevent the association between the Community and the new independent African States from being interrupted and that the rights and benefits granted to the associated States in the 1958 agreement are broken. But while these rights and benefits have indeed continued within the Yaounde Convention, it is, as the preamble states, a „new association agreement“ concluded „on the basis of total equality“ and in many respects different from the original association.
